FIRSTS Litter - Day 3

Every day brings something new. These puppies are growing physically and mentally every day. Along with barking in her sleep, Blue Girl is not afraid to be on the opposite side of the whelping area from Momma and always manages to motor her way back to the milk bar. And then there's Green Boy:

This little one has figured out how to climb Mt. Momma. Unfortunately, Momma wasn't thrilled with his decision and nosed him back down the mountain. I suspect in the near future he will be trying again.

Good grief! Who knew clipping puppy nails could be so loud! Blue Girl, while squeaking her protests loudly, did let me get through it. Although she did show me how good her gymnastics skills are as she tried to squirm out of my hands to get away. Green Boy is definitely a drama king. He was squeaking loudly when I picked him up and then amped it up right before the clippers reached his feet. Wait, what?!?!? Yes, I had not even touched him with the clippers and his voice went one octave higher I'm sure.

As our little ones grow, they seem to like exploring the whelping area. Well, it seems that if they get too tired and stop for a nap, Momma thinks they need to be woken back up to come home. I don't think she understands that when you're tired, you're supposed to pull over and take a nap. We can't be motoring along sleepy! It's quite comical to watch because Mars will scoot on her belly over to where the outlier is (scooting slowly if the other one is attached), and will then put her paw out and cover the little runaway in an attempt to wake them up. If that doesn't work, she kind of curves her paw around them and scoops them towards her, at which point they wake up and motor back to the milk bar. I hope this isn't a premonition of things to come when Mars goes through empty nest syndrome. 😁

We've been giving Mars 1600mg of calcium crushed up in some goat milk pudding. She loves the stuff and then we don't have to fight her about taking the Tums. Well, it turns out we've hit our limit of dairy. She's had an upset tummy and gas and now the puppies have it, too. If you've ever had to deal with human babies that have gas, you learned about this neat product called Mylicon. Basically, it's Gas-X for babies. Anyway, our little squirmy wormies have been getting 2 drops (notice, NOT 2 droppers) every time they start fussing to help their tummies. Because she wanted to know what it was, I gave Mars a dropper full of her own. Everyone seems to be resting peacefully.

Today's closing bell stats:

Green Boy: checking in at a svelt 563 grams.
Blue Girl: beating up the scale at 514 grams.

I must say that I think there will be no problems in hitting that "double the birth weight" thing by the end of the week.
